Brierley Hill High Street Heritage Action Zone
Supporting the enhancement and regeneration of Brierley Hill High Street, which is designated as a Conservation Area at Risk.
The support includes delivery of a buildings repair programme; implementation of public realm enhancements with highways works to improve connectivity, integrating Midland Metro and enhancing pedestrian experience; and delivery of a Community Activity Plan and a Cultural Programme.
The area's character is mainly drawn from surviving 18th and early 19th century architecture. It has a large indoor market that dates from the 1930s and still operates as a focal point for the high street.
Brierley Hill Civic Hall, situated on Bank Street in the town centre, is well known as a music venue, helping to launch the careers of many Midland-based bands including Slade.
How the Brierley Hill High Street Heritage Action Zone will help
The outcomes of the programme will include an enhanced and rejuvenated historic environment; enhancements to public realm improving connectivity; engagement with the local community to deliver a Community Activity Plan; and the delivery of a Cultural Programme for the town, thereby increasing community pride, participation levels and improving community well-being.
