Belhus Park - Thurrock (UA)

C18 landscape park laid out for Lord Dacre by Lancelot Brown between 1753 and 1763, incorporating C17 and early C18 elements with later additions by Richard Woods in 1770. The house was demolished in 1957 and the M25 motorway cuts through the eastern park. Surviving features including Brown’s shrubbery and Woods’ Long Pond are in very poor condition. Divided amongst multiple public and private owners, the site supports a golf course and other formal and informal recreational uses. A Conservation Management Plan now identifies priorities for restoration, investment, and coordinated stewardship.
