Historic England Foundation Accessibility Statement
Accessibility Statement for the Historic England Foundation.
This accessibility statement applies to https://historicenglandfoundation.org.uk/
This website managed by Historic England on behalf of the Historic England Foundation which is a registered charity. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this service. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Some elements on the cookie banner have vague alt text, which might present comprehension problems for users reliant on screen readers.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Historic England is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard due to the non-compliance listed below.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
The website fails the following Level A criteria:
1.1.1 - Non-text Content:
- The 'Powered by Cookiebot' logo in the cookie banner is simply read as 'logo' by screen readers, which might prove to be a slightly vague interpretation for some users.
- The widget displayed in the bottom left corner of the site which allows users to reopen the cookie banner has vague alt text. The widget is interpreted as 'Open widget' by the screen reader, which gives no context as to its purpose and could be confusing for some users.
Disproportionate Burden
Historic England uses cookie banner software developed and supplied by Cookiebot. Both 1.1.1 Non-Text Content defects are present in the cookie banner and have therefore been reported to Cookiebot, who have committed to fixing the defects in their next software release. Unfortunately the date of this release has not been disclosed to Historic England but may be available before the end of 2023.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
It is Historic England’s intention for historicenglandfoundation.org.uk to remain compliant and we are committed to continually reviewing our offer. Issues with the cookie banner software developed and supplied by Cookiebot have been reported to Cookiebot, who have committed to fixing the defects in their next software release.
