Collection: A L Pacitto Collection of Negatives of North Yorkshire
- Date:
- Circa 1900
- Reference:
- ALP02
- Type:
- Collection containing Photographic material
The collection contains 94 half-plates (93 negatives and 1 positive) showing views around North Yorkshire. They date from pre 1900, probably the 1890s. Approximately half of the negatives show scenes around Helmsley. Other sites include Rievaulx Abbey, Byland Abbey, Duncombe Park, Kirkdale, Kilburn, Lastingham and Coxwold. Approximately 13 views are unidentified.
As well as architectural subjects the collection contains a strong component of social history interest (family photographs, rural pastimes, village scenes, sport etc.) At least two of the negatives carry the name J E Allenby who may be John Edward Allenby (1867- 30 Dec 1917), a pharmacist/chemist in Helmsley.
A handlist is available.
The collection was acquired by the NMR in 2007.
