- Collection containing Photographic material
The collection comprises a photograph album containing 56 black and white photographic prints depicting a series of buildings during construction using steel frames manufactured by Banister, Walton and Co Ltd of London and Trafford Park, Manchester.
Buildings represented in the album include the Geological Museum, London; Central Public Library, Manchester; Northern Aluminium factory, Banbury; Kelsey Hayes Wheel Company factory, Dagenham; J.E. Beale department store, Bournemouth; Streatham Ice Rink, London; and the SS Brighton swimming baths, Brighton.
Many of the photographs were taken by Stewart Bale of Liverpool. Most of the photographs are 12 inches x 10 inches in size and were taken in 1930 and 1931 but others are undated and the latest dated photographs were taken in 1947.
The album alson includes two photographic copies of letters of endorsement that appear on the first page. The letters were written in 1930 by the Kelsey Hayes Wheel Company and H.M. Ministry of Works thanking Banister, Walton and Co Ltd for their good work. This suggests that the album was used as a promotional tool by the company when canvassing for further commissions.
The collection was acquired by the NMR in 2010.
