The collection comprises 91 issues of 'Country Fair' magazine from March 1952 to December 1959. They contain over 100 images taken by photographer John Gay, whose collection is held by the NMR.
The magazine covers a wide variety of subjects including agriculture, landscape, gardens, natural history, and domestic animals.
Issues comprise 1952 (complete apart from January and February), 1953 (complete), 1954 (complete apart from May), 1955 (complete apart from May and December), 1956 (complete), 1957 (complete), 1958 (complete), and 1959 (complete).
Archival History
The collection was given to the NMR by publisher, John Murray (the 7th) of 50 Albermarle Street, London in 2009. The collection was given to him by photographer, John Gay.
'Country Fair' magazine appears to have ceased publication in the early 1960s.
