Collection: Cornish Industrial Archaeology Photographs

Description

The collection comprises sixty-two photographs showing industrial buildings and remains of industrial structures in Cornwall including factories, mills, engine houses, workshops, viaducts and mine equipment. The prints were photographed by Keith Falconer in about 1970-1971 (unconfirmed) and were donated to the NMR in 1971. Sites covered in this collection include: Hobbacott Down Incline Plane on the Bude Canal, Pontsmill China Clay Works, Great Wheal Busy Mine, the swing bridge at Hayle Harbour, the Trevithick Statue, Dulcoath Mine and Workers' Cottages in Camborne, the North Roskear Road Workshop, Bickford's Safety Fuse Factory, the Tolvaddon Streamworks, the Tolvaddon Arsenic Works, the Penandrea Stack, the Perran Foundry, East Wheal Rose Mine, Treffry Viaduct, Moorswater Viaduct, Liskeard Brewery and Liskeard Union Workhouse.

The items have been catalogued using as far as possible much of the original numbering system; in this case, CIP01 is the NMR's Collection Level reference number, 71A or 71B were the original film numbers, and the original item numbers follow in two-digit format. Note: there are gaps in the item number run.

The collection was acquired by the NMR in 1971.
