The collection contains 11 lantern slides and 5 small glass plate negatives probably taken between 1917 and 1939.
The negatives depict views of archaeologists or surveyors at work in an unknown location. The lantern slides show oblique and vertical aerial views including 2 oblique views of Windsor, a vertical view of the Blackfriars area of London including St Paul’s Cathedral, Salisbury Plain, unidentified bombed village, forested area (with bomb craters?), ‘before and after’ view of a mined road junction, a slide titled ‘Air Line’ showing a rural scene with lines marked across the landscape (potential runway?), an early, poor quality vertical view of Stonehenge and geological formations in Iraq and Pakistan.
The photographs were given to the NMR by David Vercoe. Some lantern slides are marked R.A.E. which may relate to the Royal Aircraft Establishment.
A handlist is available.
The collection was given to the NMR by David Vercoe in 2009.
