The prints cover the period 1922 and 1963. They show mostly pub, hotel, brewery and off-licence exteriors along with a few off-licence interiors and groups of people. There are no general views of interiors. The buildings represented were in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Devon, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Gwent. Most of them display the Ind Coope brand.
The drawings cover the period 1905 and 1984. They are mainly floor plans, sections and elevations of pubs, hotels, breweries, and off-licences in Oxford and Oxfordshire.
The collection is accompanied by an annotated typescript inventory of loose fittings and effects of the Plough Inn, Tewkesbury, dated 1935. There is also a non photographic postcard advertising The Galleon in Wolverton, Buckinghamshire, dated 1953.
A handlist is available.
Ind Coope was formed in 1886 and merged with the firm of Samuel Allsopp in 1936. Ind Coope became part of Allied Breweries in 1961 which merged with Carlsberg in 1992 to form Carlsberg-Tetley.
Hall's Oxford Brewery became a limited company in 1896. It was taken over by Allsopps in 1926. The Hall's name lived on in Oxford as a brand into the 1970s.
The collection was donated to the NMR in June 2007 by Martin D. Shaw who was an assistant to Ind Coope architect, J.E.R. Leed. and later a property manager with the company.
