Patricia Bailey worked as a secretary for the National Buildings Record in the 1950s. She also took photographs, both in her own time and on commission by the NBR. The collection consists of approximately 850 small format film negatives, taken between 1957 and 1976. The photographs primarily document vernacular architecture, including schools, banks and street scenes as well as houses. Most areas of the country are represented, although there Wandsworth in Greater London and Nottinghamshire seem to have been a particular focus. Correspondence in the Collections File suggests that Mrs Bailey was asked to record some buildings prior to demolition, although this does not seem to have been the main focus of her work.
A handlist is available.
The collection was acquired by the NMR between 1957 and 1975. There are 199 photographs for which an electronic handlist is available and about 500 negatives for which paper accession lists are available. There may be other photographs in the Red Box Collection.
