The series contains 265 photographic prints and negatives taken by the RCHME for illustration of its1991 publication 'Potworks: The Industrial Architecture of the Staffordshire Potteries'. The photography shows interior and exterior views, people at wor,k and products supplied by the potteries. The publication was based on the work of the Stoke-on-Trent Historic Buildings Survey carried out at the City Museum and Art Gallery between 1962 and 1985. The survey focused on buildings dating from before 1924 in the six towns of the Staffordshire potteries. The potworks represented one part of the survey. In 1984, the RCHME was asked for its assistance in producing a publication based on t he work of the survey and eventually assumed responsibility for the funding of it and for commissioning further photography and measured survey for it.
