Description

The collection contains 9 black and white mounted photographic prints by Bedford Lemere showing Woburn Abbey on 21 July 1915 during its use as a First World War hospital. The prints were commissioned by the Duchess of Bedford.

The prints show (with Bedford Lemere negative reference numbers in brackets): exterior of the abbey (BL23130?), interior of recreation room with patients (BL23131), interior of kitchen or scullery (BL23132?), interior of living room (BL23133), interior of ward with patients and nurses (BL23134?), interior of ward with patients and nurses (BL23135?), interior of ward with patients and nurses (BL23136?), interior of ward with patients (BL23137), and interior of operating theatre (BL23139).

Archival History

The prints were acquired by the NMR before 1990.
