Berkeley Power Station, Berkeley, Gloucestershire
Machines arriving at the site entrance on the first day of work for the construction of Berkeley Nuclear Power Station. It came into service in 1962. As a Magnox reactor, Berkeley was one of the first generation of nuclear reactors in Britain. It was one of four stations located close to the mouth of the River Severn and the Bristol Channel. The others are Oldbury, Hinkley Point A and Hinkley Point B. Berkeley was the first commercial nuclear power station in the United Kingdom to be decommissioned following its closure in 1989.
