Blaise Castle, Henbury Road, Henbury, Bristol
This sham (fake) castle was built in 1766. It was designed to be picturesque and to improve the landscape. It was unusual as it was also a house that could be lived in. Sham castles were generally just a shell. It was used by its owners, the Hartford family, as a summer house. They lived in Blaise House. It is now owned by the local authority. It was renovated in 1957 and is part of a public country park.
