Chapel of the Three Kings of Cologne, Colston Street, Bristol
The chapel dates from 1504. It was built as a chantry chapel. It was refaced and re-roofed in 1861 by Foster and Wood. It was further restored in 1865. Most of the carvings are from this date. It stands at the top of Christmas Steps, in the grounds of the John Foster Almshouse. It was built by John Foster, a medieval Bristol merchant who often travelled to Germany. He chose this unusual dedication based on the chapel of the Three Kings in Cologne Cathedral.
