Decorative Arch, High Street, Lewes

Looking west along the High Street from the junction with Station Street. Groups of people are gathered around the 1st Volunteer Review decorative arch. Decorative arches like this, with relevant objects attached, were popular in the Victorian period when a town was welcoming an important visitor. The photographer was Edward Reeves.
