Edward Pease Public Library, Crown Street, Darlington
The Edward Pease Public Library and Darlington Art Gallery. An ornate building originally called the Edward Pease Free Library and dated 1884. The Pease family were prominent in the town providing 5 mayors before 1900. There is a stone with an iron hitching ring set below where W.T. Stead, the celebrated campaigning journalist, used to tie his horse when he was editor of the "Northern Echo".
