Former Fish Smoking House, Kingston Upon Hull
This fish smoking house dates from c1890. It is an example of a specialised building associated with the Hull fishing industry, which flourished from 1880 until 1970. Inside it has a cellar containing fireplaces. There are 9 kilns with wooden racks and board doors above them. Fires of sawdust were lit in the cellar fireplaces. The smoke rose through the wooden racks on which the prepared fish were hung.
