Former High Cross Coffee House, High Street, Leicester
This building was built by the Leicester Coffee House and Cocoa Co in the 1890s. It was designed by Edward Burgess who built several other coffee houses for the same company. The Leicester Coffee House and Cocoa Co was formed on the 25th July 1877. It was involved in the Temperance movement. It's main aim was "to establish houses, rooms, coffee carts, stalls and other places" in and around Leicester to provide refreshments, "no wine, ale or spirituous, or intoxicating liquors shall be sold or provided by the Company, or sold at any of their houses, rooms, stalls or places".
