Groyne on beach to the west of the Palace Pier, Brighton, Brighton and Hove
A groyne and short promenade to walk along. It was also used for a time as a coal delivery pier. It was built around 1880 although sections of it have had to be rebuilt through the 20th century. Groynes are constructed from the shore into the water to stop the sand or shingle from being swept out to sea as the waves crash onto the beach.
