Howden Minster, Howden, East Riding of Yorkshire
This was a collegiate church that was founded in 1267. It was administered by a "college" of priests known as canons. They did not belong to a specific monastic order. Work was begun on the church in 1270-75. In around 1500 a Grammar School was also built here. After the dissolution little is known of the Grammar School except that in 1564 and 1566 boys were still being sent to university. In 1824 the Commissioners of Inquiry reported that there was a Grammar School "....in an ancient building adjoining to and part of the original fabric of the church, with which it communicates with an inner door....".
