New Scotland Yard, Westminster, Greater London
New Scotland Yard from the River Thames with a paddle steamer in the foreground. New Scotland Yard was designed by the architect Norman Shaw and was built in 1888, specifically to be the new Police Headquarters. It is built in the Gothic style of architecture that was fashionable at this time. Paddle steamers, as seen here, were used to ferry passengers up and down the Thames and were a popular form of transport around Central London.
