Pleasley Colliery, Chesterfield Road, Pleasley, Derbyshire
The engine house at the former Pleasley Colliery dates from 1873. Inside were a pair of large steam winding engines. These powered the two lifts that took miners underground up until the closure of the mine. The headstocks at the top of the 2 shafts leading underground were built in 1898 and 1904. Pleasley Colliery was one of the first pits in the country to use electricity underground.
