Post Office, Hugh Street, Hugh Town, St Marys, Isles of Scilly
This Post Office was built in 1897. It was probably built by Thomas Algernon Dorrien-Smith, Lord Proprietor and architectural amateur. It was his uncle, Augustus Smith, who first introduced the postal service to the Isles of Scilly. It is built in an unusual, almost Alpine style of architecture. It is a distinguished and prominent example of Dorrien-Smith's estate architecture. It also has a plaque with '1897 VR' to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
