Preston Central Bus Station and car park, Preston, Lancashire
Preston Central Bus Station was built between 1968 and 1969 by John Laing plc. It has a bus station on the ground and a car park above. In the 1960s, the number of bus journeys decreased, while the number of cars increased. In the 1970s more people started buying cars, though far fewer people owned car compared with today (2020), so many people still travelled by bus. The building was designed in the Brutalist architectural style, with curved concrete edges to the car park levels. Because it is a really good example of Brutalist architecture is has been protected for the future by being made 'Listed Building' in 2013.
