Railway and Station, Cirencester, Gloucestershire
This aerial view shows Cirencester when it had a railway and station. The line branched off the Swindon to Gloucester line at Kemble and entered the town from the south along the line of the present ring road. It opened in 1841 and closed in 1964. The sidings were demolished but the station building is still (2011) standing. To the left of the railway sidings is the cattle market which was on Tetbury Road. The area where the railway sidings stand was used for a roundabout and supermarket. The ring road was built in the mid 1970s. Cirencester Park can be seen behind the sidings with its distinctive semi-circular yew hedge to the right.
