Remains of Temple Church, Victoria Road, Bristol
The church is also known as Holy Cross Church. It was built around 1400 in Perpendicular Gothic style. The lower stages of the tower started to lean soon after it was finished. The upper stage of the tower with its belfry was added in 1460 and slightly corrected the angle of lean. The church suffered bomb damage in the Second World War. It is preserved as a gutted shell - a monument to all the Bristol buildings lost during the war. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).Find out more
