Richborough Roman Fort, Sandwich, Kent
The fort was originally defended by a system of ditches and the walls and towers seen here were added later. The fort was occupied until the early 5th century and was one of the last places occupied before the Romans left Britain. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
