River Frome, Wareham, Dorset
A view of Lady St. Mary Church, looking towards South Bridge and the River Frome. The church was originally a Saxon minster and later formed part of a Benedictine Priory. The Saxon minster church was important. It was the burial place of King Brihtric in 802. Brihtric (also known as Beorhtric and meaning 'Magnificent ruler') was the King of Wessex from 786 to 802. There is very little left of the Saxon church. The present church dates mainly from the medieval period and was restored in the 1840s.
