This road sign was made in the early 20th century. It reads 'ASHILL/PLEASE DRIVE/SLOWLY'. This shows that traffic speeding through villages is not a modern problem, but has been happening since the early days of motoring. In this case the main road was diverted around the village in 1926-27.
