Rochester Castle, Rochester, Medway
This is a reconstruction drawing of Rochester Castle. The castle is a building of exceptional significance. It was built where Watling Street crosses the Medway and the river is narrow enough to have a bridge. It was one of the first Norman Castles to be fortified in stone. The norman curtain wall survives to the west and incorporates the remains of the Roman city wall. This property is manged by Medway Council. Read official list description.
