Roman amphitheatre, Cirencester, Gloucestershire

Many larger Roman towns had an amphitheatre for public ceremonies and entertainment. In wealthier provinces, these were often made of stone, but in Britain they are more usually earthen banks surrounding an arena such as this one in Cirencester. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010). Find out more.
