Rotherham Bridge, Rotherham, South Yorkshire

This bridge was constructed in the 15th century. It was described by a John Leland in 1540 as '... a fine stone bridge of iiii arches'. It served the Richmond to London highway. It was widened upstream in 1768 and lengthened in 1769 by John Platt under the supervision of John Carr. A new bridge was built adjacent to the medieval bridge in the 1930s, allowing the restoration of the bridge to its original dimensions.
