Royal Liver Building and Cunard Building, Liverpool, Merseyside
In 1908-11 the Royal Liver Assurance Company erected a new head office on Liverpool's waterfront. The two Liver Birds that sit on top of the building are a cross between an Eagle and a Cormorant (the bird of good luck for sailors). The Cunard Building was erected in 1913-16 as the head offices for the Cunard Steamship Company. The six-storey building is constructed in the style of an Italian palazzo.
