Saxon Settlement, Yeavering, Northumberland
Reconstruction drawing of wooden buildings at Yeavering in AD 627. Yeavering is the site of an Anglo-Saxon royal settlement called Ad Gefrin. Northumbria was one of four main Anglo-Saxon kingdoms during the 7th century. It was of great importance during the reign of King Edwin and also in the early history of Christianity in the north of England. The monk and historian known as the Venerable Bede wrote about the site in his Ecclesiastical History of the English People.
