School at former Harris Orphanage, Garstang Road, Broughton, Lancashire
These buildings are part of the Harris Orphanage. It was a 'village homes' type orphanage built in 1884-88 to house 120 children. The buildings were designed by Benjamin Sykes and are built in the Gothic and Vernacular Revival styles of architecture. They include a school master's house, school, chapel and villa residences arranged around a central green. From 1940 until 1982 the orphanage was in use as a school. The buildings were then used for student accommodation by Preston Polytechnic from 1985 until conversion to office use in 2001.
