The Ark, Tadcaster, North Yorkshire
This timber framed house was built in the late 15th century. It was altered in the early 17th century. It has impressive carvings of two heads on the front of the building. These are thought to represent the heads of Noah and his wife, hence the name. Throughout its life, the Ark has been a meeting place. It is where the Pilgrim Fathers reputedly met to plan their voyage to America. An exact replica of the building exists in Ohio, USA.
