The Bay, Weymouth, Dorset
A view south from the Esplanade towards the pier. The large statue of King George III can be seen on the right. He made Weymouth popular as a seaside resort during his 14 summer visits here between 1789 and 1805. The statue is not admired by everyone and was described as '.... that hideous monstrosity known as the King's Statue' in a local newspaper of 1886.
