The Beach, Dawlish, Devon
An elevated view looking north-east along the beach at Dawlish. The houses of the town lie to the left. The railway line lies immediately behind the beach. Dawlish station can be seen on the right of the photograph. On the side facing the sea the walls are of granite, with a steeply sloping base to protect the building from waves at very high tides. The first Dawlish railway station was built in 1846 by I.K. Brunel on the South Devon line. This station was rebuilt in 1873.
