The House in the Clouds, Thorpeness, Suffolk

This unusual structure was once a cleverly disguised 30,000 gallon water tank. It served the village of Thorpeness, north of Aldeburgh before it had a mains water supply. Originally called 'The Gazebo', the clapboarded structure was built in 1923 by Scottish landowner, playwright and barrister G. Stuart Ogilvie. The first people who lived there renamed it after a children's poem written within. The whole area was bought by Ogilvie in the early 20th century and turned into a private fantasy holiday village for the Ogilvies and their friends. It had a Peter Pan lake, Jacobean cottages and a railway station. The house is still unspoiled and in use as holiday acommodation today (2013).
