The Ironbridge, Shropshire

Thomas Pritchard's famous 18th-century bridge has for years been considered one of the first examples of prefabricated production. However, industrial archaeologists have now begun to realise that each piece of the bridge was individually manufactured, making it a piece of industrial craftsmanship, rather than mass production. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
