The Old Number One, Preston Brook, Halton

This Canal Warehouse was built in c1772. It stands alongside the Bridgewater Canal. The Bridgewater Canal was built to take the Duke of Bridgewater's coal from his mine at Worsley to cities such as Manchester. Coal was needed in large quantities to fuel the industrial revolution. The canal was opened on 17th July 1761.
