Trinity House Almshouses, Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear
This building was once a lighthouse (1725) and later became almshouses (1830). Trinity House in Newcastle upon Tyne was granted permission to build leading lights (early lighthouses) at Shields by Henry VIII. This is the earliest survivor of buildings begun in 1539. It became useless as a lighthouse when a new 'low light' was built in 1808.
