Victoria Rooms, Queens Road, Clifton, Bristol
The Victoria Rooms were built in 1839 - 1841 as assembly rooms and a concert hall. The architect was Charles Dyer. The style is classical with a French influence. Assembly room were used for dances, concerts and other events. Charles Dickens gave a reading from his books here in 1852. The inside was damaged by fire in the 1930s.The building is a prominent landmark and has been part of the university since 1934. It is currently occupied by the Department of Music.
