Images by Theme: Disability History

This selection of images portrays the history of disability within society over the last 1000 years. They are designed to accompany the Disability History project. To maintain historical accuracy we have used the terminology used to described disabled people in the context of each time period. This has been done with inverted commas to indicate that their use is no longer acceptable. A special glossary of terms has been produced to explain how the meaning of words associated with disability has changed over time.
