Webinar on Apethorpe: The Rescue and Repair of an English Country House
This webinar tells the story of the rescue and repair of Apethorpe, a major country house in Northamptonshire. English Heritage (later Historic England) stepped in and carried out a major programme of repairs between 2004 and 2012.
The programme of conservation works included masonry and timber repairs, and Collyweston slate roofing. There were particular challenges in the repairs to the fine Jacobean decorative plaster ceilings and oak panelling.
The works were accompanied by a programme of historic building research resulting in an architectural monograph, a major contribution to country house studies.
